TCI is supporting a German mechanical engineering company active in semiconductor technology in the further development of its previous IT strategy into a modern cloud strategy. Together with the CIO, TCI has perfected the cloud transformation strategy and has now also taken over the project management for the global implementation of the cloud transformation. Locations in the USA and Asia are to be transferred to this new structure by the end of the year.
Research - across borders
Around 250 specialized scientists and engineers are researching the technology trends of tomorrow at our customer. Together with research partners, the development of innovative materials is driven forward in three state-of-the-art research and development laboratories in Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA. Sales and service branches in these countries cross boarders must work closely togetherto ensure efficient and customer-oriented product development.
The prerequisites for cloud transformation
In order to be able to react quickly and flexibly to an increasingly dynamic market in the future, the previous IT strategy had to be developed into a modern cloud strategy that optimally supports these requirements from the business process.
One of the main focuses on the path to a successful cloud transformation is to review the extent to which PLM services, in particular CAD workstations, should be provided as a cloud solution. This also includes determining what technological and organizational changes and economic effects this will entail. A cloud workplace concept for engineering workspaces is currently being tested in a PoC (proof of concept). The technical feasibility is being tested, particularly with regard to integration into the existing ERP environment.
In a further step, the extent to which other services relating to office IT and UCC (Unified Communication & Collaboration) can be integrated into the future strategy will be examined.
