Variant configuration at an automotive manufacturer is essential and crucial - especially if the variant configuration needs an upgrade. Data, methods, processes and IT-systems are affected by such a transformation, which TCI partners did accompany for several years.
Several host based variant configuration systems had to be replaced by a modern application. Within this reorganization also the logic was expected to be optimized and the possibility to use the data within other applications to be improved.
The project scope was determined by a pre-study. It was decided to implement the application based on a SAP application server. This was due to the technological advantages of the SAP system and the integration into the SAP based product data management.
In a first small realization step the master data for vehicles and special equipment were developed in the new application. The second step focussed on the variant configuration rules like serial equipment, constraints, exclusions, packages and their scheduling.
The new application was well accepted, so an additional business unit contacted the project to integrate their excel based variant configuration rules into the application. After a functional enhancement to maintain an additional level of rules, it was possible to maintain country specific rules within the application.
In order to distribute the data a new modern master data hub has been realized, which made it possible to integrate several target systems.
The last implementation step was to develop an enhancement for sales rules. Following the implementation and migration phase an additional host application - where these rules are managed up to now - will be replaced.
The advantages of the solution are a faster maintenance of the rules, a better transparency of rules within the multilevel rule base and the good possibility to distribute the data.
TCI partner Patrick Müller acted as an advisor to the customer during the pre-study. He specified the application for rules as well as the country specific rules together with other consultants and did recently lead the conception of sales rules as project lead and consultant.

Case 1: IT Audit of a Webportal (Healthcare)
Our client has decided to offer internationally medical analysis as a service via a web portal. Based on real data provided by clients it is possible to determine the likeliest disease of new patients. It is not only the medical data of clients, but also the analysis is very important, so it is crucial to protect it.
Finding weak points within the newly developed web application was the goal of this examination and afterwards making proposals in order to diminish the risks.
We identified four main groups to be taken into account:
Case 2: IT-Audit of backup and restore
Backup and restore of data are provided by our client. Multiple incidents in this service was the trigger of this audit, of which the clients had to be informed. That led to the loss of trust.
The goal was to find out whether the currently carried out data backup are according to „the state of the art“ and whether they meet the client’s requirements. The entire environment of those services was closely looked at, as well as the used technologies and organizational and technical security measures were analyzed and adequate recommendations for improvements were elaborated.
Case 3: detection and control of the compliance requirements of a bank
Our client has the challenge to capture all relevant compliance requirements in the field of IT within its global organization and has to sign and monitor agreements with all external service providers. It should be noted that the Bank shall be liable as principal for the violations of its service providers. Trigger of the project was the fact that this could not be guaranteed. Supplementary changes in the service contracts led to higher costs because these were additionally charged by the service providers.
Within the project, the conditions are currently being created to cover all compliance requirements. A specially developed software for contract management is to ensure the result that these requirements are taken into account in contracts with service providers.
